    excellent

    That was one of the best descriptions that I have ever heard about cloud computing. A lot of effort obviously went into the video and script, good job!

    Thanks, very practical and informative. :)

    good explanation

    good idea but sloppy executing, the wires are visible, try using heavier stock paper to avoid transparency issues.

    I think the cloud server is in Area 54.

  8. ytrehalfD says:

    @ItsBillyBoss Yes you are right, someone has to host the cloud, and indeed they do. Cloud computing is based in what are called “data centers” which MANY companies own and operate. Essentially, these companies own a building with hundreds of servers, and let you access them for a fee. This way, you can have computing power, storage, or software that would cost thousands for a few bucks a month (usually).

    And cloud computers is nothing to do with moving your website files on to servers globally. a simple way of explaining cloud computing is basically you have say 100 servers all connected together running virtualized software from Xen, or Vmware or many other virtualization systems. this then allows you to have another 100,000 mini computer running on these 100 physical computer. your website is only using one but at peak traffic times the cloud starts up more mini pcs serving your site

  10. GammaSouljah says:

    @gespilk
    Ok lets just stop this obsession about were servers physically are and the need for them to be closer to the content held on those servers largest audience. You can have a bad datacenter in the UK and still serve pages slower to UK residence than a good datacenter in the USA.

    Cloud computing is still hosting, you the website owner are still using a company to host your website whether this is in common shared setup, a dedicated server just for you or virtualized cloud computing.

  11. gespilk says:

    @GammaSouljah
    From the point of view of the user there is no such thing as hosting if there is cloud computing. You focus on the service not where it is hosted.
    Perhaps you could tell us what do you think it is, dude?

    The global companies could have their central data centre but they would keep most of their data locally at locations where it is used most frequently.
    Example: US company keeps all UK business on UK servers and gets reports when needed. No need to make every transaction to US.

  12. GammaSouljah says:

    @gespilk
    Dude that explaintion of cloud computing is so wrong. how can you just move a webite to servers in china anyway. like all US or global hosting companies also has datacenters in every country by your estimation. Wow go swot up on how hosting actually works…..

  13. sailesh1231 says:

    That means Cloud computing is basically like server farm.

  14. VinceLP says:

    combine with IPv6 this is the end of your web surfing privacy. yaaay erboday luvz clouds

    nice NATURAL animation=) so lovingly done

  16. dirtydonki says:

    Yippee! At long last!

    Dynamic hosting as opposed to static hosting. Someone is still paying for the hosting somewhere. For the consumer this has been a long time coming.

  17. gespilk says:

    I thought Cloud Computing is nothing more than moving your services/applications on server(s) that are physically close to the geographical areas where most traffic is generated from for your services/applications? It reduces the traffic through the backbone network.

    If your web site is on USA server then the cloud is just an application that monitors your traffic and if it comes mostly from China it would move the web site on their server.

    This video seems to be explaining something else.

  18. flamehotrod says:

    @ItsBillyBoss Ofcourse. Lot’s of companies provide these cloud services. Amazon is one of them. In other words, amazon will host the servers which other companies use.

    um, ok so like just what the hell is a cloud?, and why the hell wont I want to know what server hosts my website if, its my company?!

    @cellphonelightsaber
    Ohh, I forgot its wireless lol…

  22. cellphonelightsaber says:

    @muhatashim

    There are game systems like this, but they’re experimental. Every action you make has a lag in it, because your commands have to be sent to the remote computer, and then the remote computer has to send video back to you that contains your game. It’s bad when it’s working right, and unplayable when your network is slow.

    Oh yeah, Metro 2033 is the current computer killer. It’s even more demanding than Crysis.

  23. cellphonelightsaber says:

    @ItsBillyBoss Hmm..Instead of having servers here and there for each business, there will be a group of companies that do NOTHING but manage massive servers. In this way, these companies will specialize in running the servers, and the individual businesses can focus in whatever it is they do. This consolidation and specialization is what is attracting so many companies to move to the cloud.

    Thanks for the great, simple explanation of cloud computing. Many of the explanations I’ve seen or heard make it sound like something mysterious.

  31. bradilus says:

    @VelCro8112 i doubt u do… i dont want to share with the cloud

  32. VelCro8112 says:

    @bradilus I do, want to share?

  33. VegasRage says:

    More secure? How do you know since you are not in control of the security? That is a matter of faith you place in the those managing the cloud you HOPE have the skills needed to make it more secure.

    Great video! Cloud computing is coming and Salesforce does a nice job in this video of explaining just how companies can use it to be more successful…

  36. IcarusFlying says:

    be careful. any cloud computing that isn’t open source is dangerous if it gets too large because it creates dependence in their company and their support. the money for cloud computing service aught to be for the setup and maintenance of complex systems, not for the software itself. check out the FLOSS movement for more information on free and open software.

    If we need to understand what we are heading into in this cloud thing.. We should try to draw a Technology Roadmap for this thing.. I know it is impossible to come up with an accurate Roadmap for the whole concept (maybe google does), but at least it might answer some important questions for us.
    Here is what is meant by Roadmap (for the people who don’t know what is it): Wikipidea
